Books are one of the most essential things that Isaac & I (Kim) believe set us apart from a lot of other people. Where else can you spend $15-$30 to get 10+ years of knowledge!?
This blog is a collection of our favorite books that have helped us figure out how to build a successful business with recurring revenue to have more time to travel, build our freedom-first lifestyle, and our travel podcast, Full Time to Travel Time!
Below, I share a brief summary of how each book positively impacted our lives and what you can get out of reading/listening to it too. That way, you can decide which books are the right books for you.
We made the mistakes and learned what to do and what NOT to do so you can take the fast track to living your best life! From financial intelligence to marketing with storytelling to creating duplicatable systems to getting a loving slap in the face from one of my favorite authors—this blog is a goldmine of recommendations and just wait until you actually READ these books!

The E-Myth Revisited:
Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It.
Michael E. Gerber
This book completely flipped the switch for us—from hustle & grind mode to systems mode. If you’re stuck feeling like you’ve built yourself a never-ending job instead of a real business, The E-Myth Revisited is your wake-up call. It walks you through the difference between being a wantrepreneur and actually becoming a business owner. The biggest lesson? Systems are everything. I used to blame VAs (virtual assistants) when things didn’t turn out like I expected…until this book showed me they weren’t the problem—my lack of systems and documented processes was. This is a great concept book and we highly recommend it as one of the first books you should read if you’re just starting out building your own business.
Building a StoryBrand 2.0:
Clarify Your Message So Customers Will Listen
Donald Miller
This book teaches you the secret sauce on how to sell your products/offerings using a formula to tell stories that actually engages people. Like, what if selling didn’t feel pushy or awkward—but instead felt like you’re inviting someone into an epic adventure? That’s the magic of StoryBrand. It teaches you to use the Hero’s Journey (yes, the same one Disney uses for all their best movies!) to clarify your message and connect with your audience in a way that actually sticks. One of the biggest “aha” moments? Realizing that you’re not the hero of your business—your customer is. You’re just the guide helping them through their transformation (cue Gandalf or Yoda👏). Plus, there are some awesome worksheets in this book too! If you’re tired of shouting “buy my thing!” into the void, this will completely change the game and actually make selling a lot more fun.
Rich Dad Poor Dad:
What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money – That the Poor and the Middle Class Do Not!
Robert T. Kiyosaki & Sharon L. Lechter
Okay soo…we started our business in 2018 and were making money but somehow we didn’t actually have more money and had no idea where it was actually going! By month 8 or 9 of starting our business, we realized we really needed to have a better understanding of financial intelligence. This book didn’t give us spreadsheets or QuickBooks how-tos, but it gave us something maybe even more powerful: a mindset shift. It helped us understand the basics and the difference between expenses, liabilities, and assets—and started the habit of asking ourselves every time we spent money: “Is this an expense, a liability, or an asset?” It’s such a powerful concept book if you want to learn how to make money…and then use that money to make even more money! If you want more step-by-step action items, we definitely recommend checking out Robert’s follow-up book Rich Dad’s CASHFLOW Quadrant: Rich Dad’s Guide to Financial Freedom
BONUS BOOKS!
Ok, I know we said the top 3 books, but these next 3 books have been SO helpful and life-changing. We couldn’t leave them out!
Profit First: Transform Your Business from a Cash-Eating Monster to a Money-Making Machine (Entrepreneurship Simplified)
Mike Michalowicz
This book is a game-changer—especially if you’ve ever looked at your business bank account and thought, “Wait…we made how much? Where did the money go!?” 🙈 Profit First completely flipped the script for us. Instead of hoping there’s something left over at the end of the month, this method teaches you to take your profit first (yep, even before expenses!). It gives you a super simple system to actually get money out of your business—without feeling guilty or confused. It’s honestly like budgeting for creatives and entrepreneurs who hate budgeting lol. It helped us stop treating our business like a never-ending money-eating monster and start building something sustainable that could actually support our freedom-first dream lifestyle. If cash flow feels chaotic, this is your next read. Trust us.
You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life
Jen Sincero
Kim’s FAVORITE Book!!! If you need a loving slap in the face with a side of sass, soul, and juicy, life-changing mindset, wealth, and business tips all combined…this is the book for you!! You Are a Badass is more mindset than strategy, but honestly? That’s what makes it so WOW! Jen Sincero speaks like your brutally honest, hilarious BFF and delivers golden nuggets on every page. It’s especially powerful for female entrepreneurs because it’s real, a little raunchy, and totally relatable. This book helped me shift how I saw myself, my value, and what I was actually capable of building. It’s not just for entrepreneurs, but it absolutely reframed my approach to entrepreneurship in a way that was way more fun, powerful, and unapologetic. I highly recommend reading this one with a highlighter and maybe even start a book club for it like I did with my bff Jessie. So awesome!!
Think and Grow Rich
Napoleon Hill
Isaac’s FAVORITE Book!!! This is one of those classics that hits differently every time you read it. Isaac swears this book changed his life and I really know it has. It’s all about how to use the power of your mind to shape your reality. From shifting your mindset around money to understanding how your thoughts drive your outcomes, this book is the OG personal development guide and self-help book. It dives deep into the power of belief, visualization, and—one of our favorite takeaways—the impact of mastermind groups (we love masterminds!). We both reread it every couple of years, and what we’ve found is that so do tons of wildly successful entrepreneurs. Just a heads-up: try to get the original version (like the link above), not one of the rewrites, because it’s been rewritten so many times with extra opinions from other authors. If you’re ready to train your brain for greatness, this one’s a must. PS it was originally published in the 1930s and is more male-focused but the concepts and action items are still totally real, relatable, and life-changing!
