3 Day Los Angeles Guide:
How to Avoid LA Traffic:
A 3-Day Burbank, Griffith Park & Hollywood Itinerary

Kim & Isaac – Full Time To Travel Time – USA Travel Podcast

The best way to visit Los Angeles without spending your whole trip in traffic

The easiest way to visit Los Angeles without traffic stress is to stay in Burbank and build your trip around Griffith Park, Hollywood, Warner Bros. Studio Tour, TCL Chinese Theatre, and Griffith Observatory.

This 3-day LA itinerary keeps your trip in one smart zone instead of sending you across the entire city.

Burbank → Griffith Park → Hollywood

You still get the classic Los Angeles experience, but with less driving, less parking stress, and more time actually enjoying the trip.

Don’t forget to subscribe

Quick 3-Day LA Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Burbank

Drive into LA → Check into Burbank stay → Sushi nearby → Rest

Keep your first night easy. Burbank is a great home base because it is close to Warner Bros., Griffith Park, Hollywood Boulevard, The Greek Theatre, Hollywood Bowl, TCL Chinese Theatre, and Griffith Observatory.

Day 2: Porto’s Bakery, Griffith Park, Hollywood Boulevard + Concert Night

Porto’s Bakery → Old LA Zoo at Griffith Park → Picnic lunch in Griffith Park → Hollywood Boulevard → Validated parking hack → Nap in Burbank → Greek Theatre concert

Optional concert swap:

Greek Theatre → Hollywood Bowl

This day gives you food, nature, weird LA history, Hollywood Boulevard, and an iconic outdoor concert venue without bouncing all over the city.

Day 3: Movie Lover’s LA Day

Warner Bros. Studio Tour → Lunch near Burbank/Toluca Lake → TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX → Griffith Observatory sunset

This is the classic movie-lover’s LA day: studio tour, historic theater, giant IMAX experience, and sunset over Los Angeles.

At A Glance La Itinerary Itm2Pf

Tested by Full Time to Travel Time

We personally tested this itinerary on a real Los Angeles trip.

We stayed in Burbank, started our day at Porto’s Bakery, explored the Old LA Zoo in Griffith Park, had a picnic lunch, used a Hollywood parking validation trick, saw a concert at The Greek Theatre, toured Warner Bros., watched a movie at TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX, and ended the trip with sunset at Griffith Observatory.

This is not a generic “top things to do in LA” list. It is a real route we designed to help you experience Los Angeles without spending your entire trip in traffic.

Why This LA Itinerary Works

Most LA itineraries fail because they ignore geography.

Los Angeles is not a compact city where every major attraction is close together. If you try to visit Santa Monica, Venice, Downtown LA, Hollywood, Burbank, and Griffith Observatory in one short trip, your itinerary may look exciting online, but it will probably feel exhausting in real life.

This itinerary works because it keeps your trip focused around three connected areas:

Burbank
Griffith Park
Hollywood

That gives you movie history, outdoor views, iconic theaters, famous LA landmarks, and one of the best sunset spots in the city without constantly crossing the metro area.

Why This La Itinerary Works

Best Use of This Guide

Use this guide as a starting point if you want a real, tested Los Angeles itinerary that avoids the common mistake of crossing the city all day.

This route is best for people who want Hollywood, movie history, Griffith Park, iconic theaters, outdoor venues, and classic LA views without trying to fit the entire city into one rushed trip.

Where to Stay in LA to Avoid Traffic?
Stay in Burbank

For this itinerary, Burbank is the best home base. Instead of staying far away and fighting traffic all day, you can group your activities together and actually enjoy your trip.

You are close to:

  • Warner Bros. Studio Tour
  • Griffith Park
  • Old LA Zoo
  • The Greek Theatre
  • Hollywood Bowl
  • Hollywood Boulevard
  • TCL Chinese Theatre
  • Griffith Observatory

Burbank also makes it easier to take a midday break. That matters if you are doing outdoor exploring during the day and a concert, movie, or sunset stop at night.

Day 1: Arrive in Burbank

Drive into LA and check in

Do not overplan your arrival day.

LA traffic is unpredictable, especially if you are driving in from another city or arriving during rush hour. Use your first day to check in, settle in, and get your bearings.

Dinner nearby

We stayed in Burbank and grabbed sushi close to where we were staying.

That was the right move. No long drive. No stressful parking. No complicated first night.

Travel tip:

Keep your first night within 10 to 15 minutes of your stay. Save the bigger LA moments for Days 2 and 3.

Day 2: Porto’s, Griffith Park, Hollywood Boulevard + Greek Theatre

Stop 1: Porto’s Bakery in Burbank

Start your morning at Porto’s Bakery in Burbank.

Get breakfast and coffee, then grab lunch to-go for Griffith Park. This saves time, saves money, and helps you avoid another restaurant stop later in the day.

Best strategy: Get something for breakfast, then pick up sandwiches, savory pastries, or snacks for a picnic lunch.

Stop 2: Old LA Zoo at Griffith Park

Next, head to the Old LA Zoo area inside Griffith Park.

Plan for 1 to 2 hours.

This is one of the coolest low-stress LA stops because it feels weird, historic, outdoorsy, and different from the usual tourist attractions. You can walk through old zoo enclosures, see the stone structures, take photos, and explore without committing to a difficult hike.

Why it works:

  • Unique hidden-gem feel
  • Great for photos and video
  • Low-cost or free
  • Easy to pair with a picnic
  • Close to Burbank and Hollywood

Stop 3: Picnic lunch in Griffith Park

Eat the lunch you picked up from Porto’s.

This keeps the day simple. No second parking situation. No waiting for a table. No leaving the park just to find food.

This is one of the easiest ways to make LA feel less stressful: fewer transitions, fewer drives, and more breathing room.

Stop 4: Hollywood Boulevard

After lunch, head to Hollywood Boulevard.

This is where you can see:

  • TCL Chinese Theatre
  • Hollywood Walk of Fame
  • Dolby Theatre
  • Ovation Hollywood
  • Hollywood Sign views from the shopping center area

Hollywood Boulevard is busy and touristy, but it is still worth seeing once, especially if this is your first trip to Los Angeles.

The key is to park smart.

Stop 5: Use parking validation

Hollywood parking can get expensive, but validation can save you a lot.

We parked in a central Hollywood garage, bought a small tea from a participating business, and got our parking validated.

That one small stop saved us money and made Hollywood Boulevard way less annoying.

Stop 6: Nap in Burbank

Yes, seriously.

Go back to Burbank and rest before the evening.

This is why staying in Burbank works so well. You can actually build in a break instead of dragging yourself through a 12-hour day.

Stop 7: Greek Theatre concert

End the night with a concert at The Greek Theatre.

It is outdoors, scenic, and located in Griffith Park, so it fits perfectly with this itinerary.

Bring a sweatshirt or light jacket. Even when LA is warm during the day, outdoor venues can get chilly at night.

Optional swap: Hollywood Bowl

If The Greek Theatre does not have a show that fits your dates, check the Hollywood Bowl.

It is another iconic outdoor LA venue in the same general area and works well with this route.

Day 3: Warner Bros., TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX + Griffith Observatory

Stop 1: Warner Bros. Studio Tour

Start the morning with the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Burbank.

This is one of the easiest major LA attractions to do when you are staying nearby. You avoid a long morning drive and get a behind-the-scenes look at movie and TV history.

This is a great stop for:

  • Movie lovers
  • TV fans
  • First-time LA visitors
  • International travelers
  • Anyone who wants a classic Hollywood studio experience

Stop 2: Lunch near Burbank or Toluca Lake

After the studio tour, keep lunch nearby.

Do not drive across the city for food. The point of this itinerary is to keep the day smooth and geographically smart.

Burbank and Toluca Lake have plenty of good lunch options, including classic studio-area restaurants.

Stop 3: TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX

Next, head back to Hollywood for a movie at TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX.

This is not just seeing a movie. It is one of the most iconic theater experiences in Los Angeles.

You get:

  • The historic TCL Chinese Theatre
  • The handprints and footprints outside
  • Hollywood Boulevard
  • A massive IMAX auditorium
  • A classic LA movie experience

Best seat tip: Choose seats near the center and about two-thirds of the way back. Avoid the very front rows because the screen is huge.

Stop 4: Griffith Observatory for sunset

End the trip at Griffith Observatory.

This gives you one of the best classic LA views:

  • Hollywood Sign
  • Downtown LA skyline
  • Mountains
  • Sunset
  • City lights after dark

Plan to arrive 45 to 60 minutes before sunset so you have time to park, walk around, and find a good viewpoint.

You do not need to do a big hike. The lawn, terraces, and sidewalks around the Observatory already give you incredible views.

FAQ: Visiting LA Without Traffic

What is the least stressful way to visit LA for the first time?

The least stressful way to visit LA for the first time is to stay in one area and build your itinerary around nearby attractions. For a Hollywood-focused trip, Burbank is one of the easiest bases because it is close to Warner Bros., Griffith Park, Hollywood Boulevard, TCL Chinese Theatre, The Greek Theatre, Hollywood Bowl, and Griffith Observatory.

What is the best 3-day LA itinerary without traffic?

A low-stress 3-day LA itinerary is:

Day 1: Arrive in Burbank → dinner nearby → rest
Day 2: Porto’s Bakery → Old LA Zoo → Griffith Park picnic → Hollywood Boulevard → Greek Theatre
Day 3: Warner Bros. Studio Tour → TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX → Griffith Observatory sunset

This itinerary works because it keeps your trip focused around Burbank, Griffith Park, and Hollywood instead of sending you across the entire city.

What is the best area to stay in LA to avoid traffic?

Can you visit Hollywood without spending all day in traffic?

Where can I get the exact LA parking and route details?

Full Time to Travel Time offers a free LA Traffic-Free Trip Cheat Sheet with the exact Hollywood parking garage, validation stop, Google Maps route order, best arrival times, what to skip, and a printable checklist.
